Nets, Warriors Talking Trade?

The Post's Peter Vecsey is reporting the Nets and Warriors have talked about bringing Roselle native Al Harrington home: "Recent trade talk involving Al Harrington broke off when the Nets wouldn't give the Warriors the package they demanded". Vecsey provides no details, but thinks talks could have restarted this weekend. There's little doubt Harrington wants out ... or that Don Nelson wants him gone.

I don’t think this is true. Peter also has a trade rumor for the Mavs. I think he’s making this up.

by kevin on Nov 2, 2008 12:06 PM EST reply actions

Never mind I was making bad assumptions, if its true it wouldn’t be bad. I think it is true, and Stro and Sean may get traded.

by Jerrod on Nov 2, 2008 12:16 PM EST reply actions

Jesus. If that means getting rid of that sorry xxx Simmons, I’m all for it.

by croc on Nov 2, 2008 12:44 PM EST reply actions

omg if we get harrington were making the playoffs no doubt. HE CAN SCORE

by matt on Nov 2, 2008 12:56 PM EST reply actions

Looking at the Warriors last night, I think they would want Harris for Harrington. No way that is going to happen, but that could very easily be the starting the point on talks.

by Net Income on Nov 2, 2008 1:23 PM EST reply actions

Ohh dear god this would be very very awesome if Harrington could come here.
He has exactly the type of contract that we’re looking for (at most 2 years) and he’s actually a very good player!
Make it happen Thornagvethe you can do it!

by Adam.y on Nov 2, 2008 1:30 PM EST reply actions

Makes a lot of sense. The Warriors know they are going nowhere in the West with this lineup. They have little chemistry with Al Harrington wanting out, Stephen Jackson, M. Williams can’t be happy, Belinelli and Wright are in Nellies doghouse. The Nets are rebuilding but a trade for Harrington makes them real competitive and possibly a playoff team in the East.

The Nets can offer something like Swat, S. Swift, The Warriors pick back to them, and the rights to Krstic. That might seem like a lot but none of the above are even in the Nets rotation! It gives the Warriors the big bodies they need. The Warriors can throw in Wright and/or Belinelli. The Nets can use a big or a shooter if they make this deal.

The Warriors get rid of unhappy players and add the athletic potential of Swat and Swift. The Nets then can start Carter, Harris Harrington Yi Lopez. Guys like Simmons are better off the bench and Lopez will replace Boone. The Nets can mix and match and bring Yi off the bench. But Harris Carter and Harrington gives the Nets a big 3 as good as their old big 3 from a year ago. If it doesn’t elevate them to a playoff contender, Harrington can walk in 2010 and we are still free to do what we need. Make this deal if you can!

Trade swat, swift, and something else for him.

by Mr Dollar Bills on Nov 2, 2008 2:28 PM EST reply actions

trade simmons, swift, ager, hassel for harrington…

by bdawg on Nov 2, 2008 2:36 PM EST reply actions

Get Al Harrington without giving up any of the players who played in the game yesterday.

by Jason on Nov 2, 2008 2:39 PM EST reply actions

@ bdawg

No way the Warriors will want to take back Simmons’ contract, not even Hassell’s, I believe. Give them SWAT, Stro and Ager and it works.

by Andrés on Nov 2, 2008 2:41 PM EST reply actions

@supernetsfan

How much is Krstic’s contract? I think giving up Swift, Krstic’s rights and a second round pick would be good.

by Danny on Nov 2, 2008 2:59 PM EST reply actions

simmons makes more money than al harrington…get rid of simmons, ager, hassell and swift for al harrington and try to get tat kid from UNC, i don remember his name along with AL.
SWAT should stay with the nets,….

by yogi on Nov 2, 2008 3:00 PM EST reply actions

swift + ager + 1st round pick FOR harrington

Harrington can start at small forward for us, with boone & lopez up front.

Do it, rod!!!

by brooklyn bob on Nov 2, 2008 3:05 PM EST reply actions

@brooklyn bob
i like that. but do u feel we should give up swat???
i tink we should give up simmons too, cos otherwise our intelligent coach will bench al harrington and bobby will be shooting air balls…
i have no respect for frank

by yogi on Nov 2, 2008 3:16 PM EST reply actions

Does anyone know who exactly the Nets offered? If we could do any of the combos that people have been suggesting (Stro, Swift, Ager, Hassel, Simmons, the pick, etc) I think that would be great for us. I’m a little worried they’d do something stupid involving CDR, Brook, or even Vince. It also looks like Harrington would have to move to the 3 if he came here.

by KFranchise on Nov 2, 2008 3:20 PM EST reply actions

@ yogi

No way should we trade sean.

With proper coaching, he’s a stud power forward.

Some players need coaching more than others do … sean is one of those players.

Simmons has 2 years remaining on his deal. Harrington only has 1 year remaining. The warriors wouldn’t want to be stuck with that extra year on simmons’ contract.

FRANK SUCKS!!!

by brooklyn bob on Nov 2, 2008 3:36 PM EST reply actions

@brooklynbob
i agree with u man…frank sucks…
frank cut the crap abt ur 10 man rotation, abt the 10 becomin 11 and tat 10 can become 9…loser…
was there any neeed to play najera before sean…when najera didnt play in one preseason game or practise…
i feel najera is kind of over rated somewhat..people talk like he is the ron artest of the nets…maybe if frank likes veterans so much..he shud get himself a jersey and play in one of the games…mayeb he shud try and play against the suns.he should guard nash.
im waitin for the suns game. cos i tink we can somewat contain shaq with boone and lopez…jus wait and watch wat amare does to yi or ryan anderson.
and after the game frank will say oh i tink i shud play only 7 or 8 players like the suns…
can some one come up with the match ups for the suns game…

by yogi on Nov 2, 2008 3:57 PM EST reply actions

We can’t trade Simmons. Golden State can get a lot more than that for Harrington so forget about.

Krstic isn’t under contract. We simply would be trading his rights. If he never returns to the NBA Golden State would get nothing for him.

We have to include Swift to make this work. No way GS wants Hassell under contract two more years. And GS would almost def. want Swat. the other players are minor. I bet you anything that GS is asking for Anderson or CDR in the deal and/or first rounder. We might have to include a pick to get it done and GS wants higher that their pick back.

Would we risk trading Yi? No one has mentioned that but it’s a def. possiblity. If we traded RJ for Harrington few people would be griping. Don’t be surprised if the Nets aren’t happy with him and are keeping quiet about it for trade purposes. Look how guys with potential like Milicic and Stro have been passed around.

by supernetsfan on Nov 2, 2008 4:24 PM EST reply actions

^ No They want to Trade Sean

by Jerrod on Nov 2, 2008 4:38 PM EST reply actions

I thought about this. It fits for the Nets. He plays SF, who’s PT would he be taking away? Hayes? Simmons? He fits in really well and would help through the tough times.

He’s a NJ native, he wouldn’t mind living in NJ

His contract runs out in 2010.

Give them Sean Williams, the Nets don’t need him. They have so many more talented bigs like Yi, Lopez and Boone, not to mention Anderson.

Do it Rod!!!

by ZHAKIDD532 on Nov 2, 2008 4:45 PM EST reply actions

y wud u want to trade simmons anyway he is an excellent defender proof by steven jackson bad 3 quarters last nite and can bury the three……

by Ethan on Nov 2, 2008 4:47 PM EST reply actions

Frank’s defensive schemes are far more complicated than they need to be. They just confuse his own players, especially a guy like sean.

In the past, frank had smart & skilled vets like kidd, jefferson and collins who could thrive in any defensive system. But those days are long gone.

by brooklyn bob on Nov 2, 2008 5:05 PM EST reply actions

Right, so he should stop coaching because he has stupid players. Great solution.

by Anthony on Nov 2, 2008 5:07 PM EST reply actions

Yi is a 3 stuck in a 4’s body.

by brooklyn bob on Nov 2, 2008 5:13 PM EST reply actions

SIMPLIFY his coaching does not mean “stop” his coaching.

by brooklyn bob on Nov 2, 2008 5:17 PM EST reply actions

This isn’t about Franks judgement, it’s about his ability to teach

by Jerrod on Nov 2, 2008 5:24 PM EST reply actions

Frank’s coaching strength is supposedly “player preparation.”

If frank’s players are so well prepared, then why does he need to constantly shout instructions at them during play?

You don’t see popovich, jackson or sloan doing that. In fact, you don’t see any other coach in the league doing that.

To the contrary … they pick their spots to make their points. Why? Because they played the game themselves and know that players will tune out a coach who talks too much.

by brooklyn bob on Nov 2, 2008 5:42 PM EST reply actions

Brooklyn Bob…

No other coach really screams instructions? Do you watch other NBA games? Coaches yell out instructions all the time.

by TrueNetsFan on Nov 2, 2008 7:27 PM EST reply actions

The problem with Frank is he ruined all those great draft picks: Tamar Slay, Zoran Planinic, Christian Drejer, Antoine Wright, Mile Ilic, Marcus Williams, Hassan Adams, and Sean Williams.

ALL of them with All-Star potential, all but Sean now STARRING on other NBA teams….oh wait, no, they’re not!

How come no one mentions the job he did with Nenad Krstic until his injury and Josh Boone? Not to mention Devin Harris, who loves him.

TAMAR!!! We miss you!!!

by Net Income on Nov 2, 2008 7:51 PM EST reply actions

@ Nets Income

You make a god point, but not all of those players really had all-star potential. And, if those players loose their confidence from the beginning they might never be able to get it back. You do make a good point on Josh Boone and Kristic though.

by Jason on Nov 2, 2008 7:58 PM EST reply actions

Thanks Net Income.

Trading for Harrington makes no sense for a team that has just traded for Yi and signed Najera. Although Simmons for Harrington works under the trade rules, it doesn’t do anything for the Warriors who are stocked at the wing with Maggette, Azubike and Action Jackson. Plus,Harrington can’t cover a 3. Can’t see this happening. Peter Vecsey is usually wrong anyway.

by mt57 on Nov 2, 2008 8:07 PM EST reply actions

no details were given so i cant comment on whether i would want harrington or not.

im assuming the warriors demanded the house for harrington. meaning guys like harris, lopez, picks were involved. obviously we wont trade those nor our younger guys like yi, cdr, anderson right now. swat i think is on the table for the right price.

i wouldnt mind harrington as he is a very good player, but it depends for what. he would make us more enjoyable to watch. it takes pressure off vince and creates a very nice harris-carter-harrington threesome on the perimeter. add that with brook and if yi is on it makes us a better team.

if we could dump hassel, ager, swift and only have to give up a swat i would do it. i dont want picks involved as they warriors do not have the leverage in negotiations, then again neither did thorn when talkin to cuban (different situation).

i like swat and i dont want to really trade him, but as long as frank is here i dont think it will be worth it to keep swat around. right now there are so many bigs i dont think frank wants to tolerate swat’s mistakes. swat could be a swift part II, but he also could be a camby type. he may just need 4 years or so to really develop. i might involve him for harrington. he makes us better now where we dont have to experience 50+losses and maybe get into the playoffs, but he also wont take time away from the young guys like brook,yi,cdr, anderson. plus his contract is what rod and kiki want, it ends for the summer of ’10 which is obviously a big target whether its about lebron or others

by xcalibur on Nov 2, 2008 8:43 PM EST reply actions

@bdawg

LOL, they won’t want those scrubs.

Don’t always give away all your scrubs on your team for a quality player.

by jarkid on Nov 2, 2008 9:36 PM EST reply actions

We really need Harrington, he is a really good player and a legit small forward, and he killed us last night.

Harris, Carter, Harrington, Yi, Lopez,,

and we can compete in the east.

by jarkid on Nov 2, 2008 9:41 PM EST reply actions

Simmons, Sean Williams and a draft pick for harrington would be nice for us. No way do you touch …Harris, Carter, Brook, Boone and maybe CDR.

BRING AL BACK HOME

by David on Nov 2, 2008 10:21 PM EST reply actions

I figure they’re not going to give up Wright or Randolph, and they would be silly to take back Simmons, so I would try this: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=998~829~3239~308~3435&teams=9~9~9~17~17&te=&cash= Hendrix could be bought out easily, or we could just keep him on the inactive list. Starters: Harris, Carter, Harrington, Jianlian, Lopez; Bench: Dooling, Douglas-Roberts, Simmons, Hayes, Anderson, Najera, Boone; Inactive: Ager and Hendrix. We would deff. compete, but I think it’s just wishful thinking, not going to happen.

by cjs17 on Nov 2, 2008 10:38 PM EST reply actions

Then no deal. We’re not the desperate ones here, Don Nelson has to live w/ Harrington, if we’re dealing Sean they must give back Randolph or Wright, if not then no deal simple as that.

by Nets4life on Nov 2, 2008 10:50 PM EST reply actions

hmm wierd, I was playing as the Nets for the 2k9 season and I got harrington for swift, hassell, and Ager. hmmmm coincidence?

I’m not giving up on Swat. There’s way oo much potential to let him go.

by R.M on Nov 2, 2008 11:21 PM EST reply actions

i wonder if there is anyway we could get belinelli involved if we are going to be giving up draft picks. harrington is nice, but im not giving up a draft pick for someone who has 2 years on his deal who probably wont resign, but ya never know about that. i would see harrington as a rental piece until his contract comes off the books

by xcalibur on Nov 2, 2008 11:27 PM EST reply actions

Something is wrong w/ Bellineli he was suppose to be a better shooter than Rudy Fernandez and hasn’t looked like it.

by Nets4life on Nov 3, 2008 1:38 AM EST reply actions

Harrington is way overrated and has such an inflated contract there is no way Thorn and Kiki would take that on right now.

by johnny on Nov 3, 2008 6:50 AM EST reply actions

L-Frank is the Man!! Thank you NetIncome for making that point soundly.

I think a lot of you are over looking the obvious – Swat, Stro and Ager are the only guys who haven’t played, and Swat is not on the bench for motivation. Nobody would want Ager, and I pray that Rod is smart enough to keep the rooks and Yi.

Stro, Swat, draft pick = Al Harrington = NJ Playoffs

Please get this done, Rod.

by kidshizzle on Nov 3, 2008 10:48 AM EST reply actions

Strow show could be good if we just played the guy..hes an animal

by MikeyV on Nov 3, 2008 1:21 PM EST reply actions

Kiddshizzle’s deal is more likely than any others…Simmons can’t be traded until after Febuary I think.

For the person who suggestion the Nets should trade Carter for Harrington.. are you serious? I’ve watched Harrington in Indiana both times as well as in Atlanta, and he is not a top tier SG or SF. I know VC ain’t perfect but Al is not on his level. Plus he’s owed more than he’s worth right now.
