Nets Rejected Bobcats' Offer, Still Looking to Deal

In post-game notes, Fred Kerber writes the Nets turned down a Bobcat offer of Matt Carroll for Sean Williams and Trenton Hassell "several weeks ago" but are still trying to deal. He says they've spoken to Memphis, Golden State and Houston. Both Kerber and Dave D'Alessandro note the Nets are indeed considering a D-League stint for Williams...who did some impromptu redecorating of his locker after the game.

If the Cats want Sean, ask Morrison in return. They’ve made him available.

If the make a deal w/ Memphis, I like Lowry.

if they want sean they can throw in a 1st. if not then good pass.

i think it would be good for sean to go to the DLeague. bottom line is that he wont get consistent minutes here. he is not playing over boone, lopez,yi and najera. then there is Anderson who i think will be a more consistent performer and will split that time with najera.

playing in the DLeague and getting heavy minutes will be great for him. yeah its not NBA level talent, but he needs to learn some basics of the game and the DL is a great place for that.

i would love to go the DL route before a trade happens. we have to try to do everything we can to extract all the talent that we can out of swat before we give up on him. the better he plays then he can come back and by that time we should be in the basement where frank will forget wins and focus on developing players so swat gets a shot again. if that fails then i could see a trade, but dont give up on him. too early in his career and we are not a win now team. we have time, not much, but we can at least wait 1more year no?

maybe Bobcats makes me laughing!

carroll is ‘sean + Hassell’?

Oh no…

at least give to me, Morrison or felton

If julius Hodge could dominate the DLeague, Sean would for sure. There aren’t a lot of athletic big men there. I am not sure the DLeague would address Sean’s issues, which seem to involve thinking clearly at NBA speed. But may be it would wake him up. That stretch last night was hilarious. 4 great plays, 4 ridiculous plays, nothing in between. As the radio guys said, he was keeping both teams in the game.

It’s all about improving, not getting numbers in the D-League lol…

Brian Hill is equally bad as Frank. The best coach for this team is Avery johnson.

I dont want to hear how this team is bad cause their not.bad coaching has them playing that way.We seen what Lopez can do with his soft touch.Simmons jumper though its not falling is sweet as hell.this all boils down to a lack of confidence & role.

we can compare a few teams that i think our team is better than.lets do 2 that we lost to.

    Nets Heat Pacers
5.Lopez Haslem Hibbert
4.Yi Beasley Murphy
3.Simmons Marion Granger
2.Carter Wade Dunlevy
1.Harris Chalmers Ford
6.Dooling Magloire Daniels
7.Boone Wright Diener
8.Williams Quinn baston
9.Hayes Livingston Rush
10Anderson J.Jones McRoberts
11CDR Diawara Jack
12Najera Cook Nesterovic
13Swift Banks Foster

Zartan you can’t just compare players and define the term “better” that way. Its a collective sport.

Lopez touch or no touch, Have you seen his play? He’s got talent but he’s going through typical rookie stuff. If the team spirals out of control then i’m with you all the way, He should get the bulk of the minutes.

What a shame that we have resorted back to being a laughingstock of the league. It is so obvious whenever this pathetic excuse for a coach inserts Sean, that the kid has real potential. Is he going to be a superstar? Not likely. But he can definitely carve a niche for himself as a defensive stopper in the lane and a guy that can finish on he break (think a poor man’s Kenyon Martin). Meanwhile we have to watch scrubs like Hassell get minutes in front of him because little Larry has to remind everyone he is a head coach. This is utterly pathetic.

I don’t know, I remember seeing the highlights from last years rook/soph game. I know these games don’t matter, but Sean was awesome, he has the athleticism to be a superstar. Many athletic guys in the league, but how many times have you seen a rookie throw himself an alley oop with the right hand high off the glass and catch it and slam it with the left hand? I’m saying he’s got something beyond athleticism, don’t know what and if enough, but something.

I remember him saying round this time last year that Frank was teaching him how to rebound. then I though it was his sense of humor. Now I know it’s his sense of humor. As in how humorous it is that a little guy like Frank is teaching a big athlete like SW to rebound.

Did they really reject that awesome offer, who would’ve guessed? ;)

Can someone translate or speak in other words what means the last sentence, please “…who did some impromptu redecorating of his locker after the game.”

by Pedro Alves (Portugal) on Nov 13, 2008 12:21 PM EST reply actions

That means he came into the locker room pissed that he took those stupid 2 shots and tore off the oak plating from round his locker room like a gangster. Damn, if only we could channel that energy against opposing bigs!

by me on Nov 13, 2008 12:24 PM EST reply actions

Sean has more athletic ability then any other big man on the Nets. Right there, that puts him above the rest of them, because if he has that much ability, and if someone can teach him the rest, he is automatically better then the rest of em.

If Josh Boone doesn’t produce 10-10 on a daily basis, you might as well let Swat and Lopez have a chance to develop.
We’ve seen everything that Boone could do and will do; he won’t surprise you in his future career! Swat and Lopez have so much potentials to be developed

Just make Sean the MC of Continental, I mean the IZOD Center… he spends most of his time signing for fans before the game. Kid has a lot of potential but his decisions and aggressiveness (fouls) result in Lawrence Stank benching him.

Could be worse tho…

I say move the team to Newark, tank the season, trade VC, get Rod Thorn back, charge $20 for parking, install metal seats so fans will be more likely stand during blowouts,

Just don’t get rid of the senior dancers or Brett Yormark.

I hope we can make a really good trade within the next two or 3 weeks because here’s what I see.

1)We need a 3rd string point guard.
CDR we’ll get much more playing from Hassell when he comes back and he’ll be our backup 2, DOoling will be backup for Harris, but we need that 3rd string. Gill?Bayless?Sergio Rodrigiez?

2)Sean Williams is probably going…but where to?
It’d be really good for Sean if he went to the D-league and increase his basketball IQ a little bit more, he’ll dominate in the DL and that should be good for him. Although other people see his talent and are willing to trade him. Hmm I’d take either Al Harrington from GSW,Kyle Lowry(which probably won’t happen), or Luther from Houston.

3)Swift, Hassell, and Ager are probably going to stay. ugh
Hassell I could see him getting traded if there is a trade with Sean Williams, but unlike Ager he can at least defend.Barely. Ager should go to the d league as well. Be good for both him and the Nets. When Swift comes back and Sean is still on the roster, expect Frank to give Swift some minutes, taking away any chances of Sean getting some more playing time.

Devin Harris needs to come back if we have even a remote chance to beat the hawks. But I hope something good will happen in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

If they are going to keep Area 51 for at least the time being… and take into account the fact that we stink… at least give the fans their moneys worth and play Sean. I would rather lose with Williams putting on a block/dunk fest, then lose with a boring showing.

by Tim on Nov 13, 2008 3:08 PM EST reply actions

try 2 make a trade with ny they could use his athletic ability and we’re not going 2 use him try 2 get something good for him he’s a unique individual and can do good somewhere els

by da truth on Nov 13, 2008 3:09 PM EST reply actions

if we didnt sign narajera im sure he and anderson would have consistent minutes, franks an idiot he should play najera at the 3 i dont get why he plays him at the 4 all the time i think he can guard permiter players and anderson and sean would back up yi. sean looked a lot stronger yesterday i think hes gonna build up to be like amare he just has to have confidence

Front Court Rotation!

by IsawVC on Nov 13, 2008 4:48 PM EST reply actions

@Dirty Jersey

if only that would happen….sigh exceot you should put Hayes over Simmonsat the 3.

by R.M on Nov 13, 2008 5:16 PM EST reply actions

ane1 notice that when sean came into the game agaist the pacers he made an instant impact? get this kid more playing time!

by CDR17 on Nov 13, 2008 10:48 PM EST reply actions

Najera can be one hell of a teacher for Anderson, Lopez and Sean Williams. He can help them at practice, watch tape with them and generally just be a coach. His value to this team is not on the court. I don’t see why he should see any playing time over these young bigs.

by DirtyJersey22 on Nov 14, 2008 11:09 AM EST reply actions

Jarvis Hayes is playing his ASS off for this team! It’s unbelievable. He really should be starting with the effort he’s been putting out.
