With Harris Possibly Out for the Week, Nets Thinking Replacement

Devin Harris won't play against Miami Monday and probably won't against Indiana Wednesday and is only a maybe against Atlanta Friday. His ankle, which the team was optimistic about over the weekend, is bad enough that he can't play. Meanwhile, the Nets are thinking about a replacement part, that elusive third point guard. There are names, but there are also other issues, like roster space and money.

So whats this about 1 week we have so much money that we are going after Lebron, and now this week we are short on money to hire a bum off the streets to sub in for a week. I dont get that at all.

Who needs a backup point guard, anyways.
We’ve got the solution to all our problems … mister softee … yi jianlian!! … the guy who made troy murphy look like larry bird the other night.
Let’s go nets!!

Earl Watson, he wants out. He can hit the 3, and he plays D. Plus he knows how to pass.
by jerrod on Nov 10, 2008 2:35 PM EST reply actions
Simmons for Earl Watson, and Damien Wilkins.
Or Stro, a pick, Trenton, and Sean for Earl Watson and Jeff Green

Call up Eddie Gill, but we need help badly at the SF position.
Carter cannot carry this load by himself. I still think Yi will be a serious player in due time, but we need a small forward. They need to go harder at getting Al Harrington over here, i’d even try to get Gerald Wallace.
Screw 2010. Lebron is not coming here and the other big names could be a long shot as well with the team’s move in limbo. If we have flexibility lets use it to construct a winning team.
Also, i’m not jumping off of a bridge because we are losing games. I expected as much, but Frank imo needs to go before the month ends and if no moves can be made for an SF then the young guys need to be playing.

Troy Murphy in case you haven’t been watching the NBA lately is a complete stud and performs like that every game Mr Brooklyn Bob .
He destroyed me all last week in fantasy basketball. He is in the top ten of numerous categories, beating some big time, big name players.

Simmons, Stro, Hassell for Marbury. It’s not as crazy as it sounds. We get cap flexibility at the end of the year, Marbury’s gone, but he makes us competitive while Harris is out and when Harris is back.
It alleviates the crowded frontcourt situation, allows Hayes to start, or Yi at the 3 or carter at the 3 with Marbury and harris in the backcourt. We get rid of Hassell’s bad contract.
The Knicks get an athletic big man, and a couple of veteran small forwards that can help the young guys develop.

1) I still want Javaris Crittenton or Sergio Rodriguez. Neither are perfect, but both have potential. Crittenton hasn’t played for the Grizz and with all the PG’s going down, he will be playing for someone next week.
2) For all the complaining about Yi -most of which I put down to racial profiling or RJ nostaglia- he has averaged a near double-double last week, scoring 9.7 points and pulling down 9.3 rebounds over three games. He also blocked a shot per game and played at least 23 minutes in each of his games. Anyone here believe he would be averaging 8 rebounds a game? Anyone here think he was even capable of averaging 8 rebounds a game? He has been inconsistent. Wow, a 21 year old who is inconsistent!!!
3) Lebron not coming? Anyone who makes that claim is just off the charts silly. No one knows what he is going to do, but if he isn’t staying in Cleveland and he might, he aint going to Detroit, which may be abandoned by 2010.

Nets come to brooklyn, then LeBron is there. If not you’ll see him in a Knick Uni.
by Zartan on Nov 10, 2008 3:13 PM EST reply actions
I don’t believe that either. I don’t think anyone knows but I believe what Dave D believes. If he isn’t staying in Cleveland he is headed for the Big City.

The name Lebron just reeks of potential disappointment for the Nets fans. Considering the state of Brooklyn, good luck with Lebron

Man I feel sad for CDR. Here’s a chance for him to get some major minutes, and he’s out for a week or two. Not saying he’s a point guard, btu V.C play’s more of a point guard than anyone else on the team.
Our sf position is a real problem too. Hayes needs to get more minutes cuz he’s produced when Simmon’s hasn’t.
GIVE ANDERSON AND SWAT SOME PLAYING TIME!
We definitely have t he hieght advantage on this club, and we have to use our strengths agianst this team, because I could see both V.C and Dwade going for 30. BUt Wadees’ crew making points, and V.C’s….making air balls.
Expect a big game from Lopez tonight.
I’d go for Sergio, or sign Gill.
OR GET BAYLESS! he’s not getting any playing time here in Portland.
by R.M on Nov 10, 2008 3:57 PM EST reply actions
Swat shut Beasley down in summer league and Anderson made him look ill when Cal played Kansas State last year.
The Nets will get offense from VC, who always plays well in Miami, and whoever Beasley is guarding.

ok…im saying it…eddie gill is better a the point than dooling…thats it i said it.
Start Ryan Anderson instead of Yi “I.hate.basketball” Jianlian.

exactly! too bad Frank might no give them any minutes…
by R.M on Nov 10, 2008 4:02 PM EST reply actions
get marbury!!!!! dooling is not a natural point guard and cant really create too much on his own plus he doesnt get others involved. Marbury can still penetrate the hole and create opportunties.
by net fan on Nov 10, 2008 4:06 PM EST reply actions
@ Supernetsfan,
I actually like your idea about Marbury making a return not only because he’ll be gone at the end of the year but also because he will provide serious depth at our PG position. Since he’s useless to the Knicks we could probably get him for nothing too. I could be wrong but MAYBE this situation in New York is also making him more humble, so when someone trades for him/gives him a chance he will actually start to produce. In many ways he is like a “fallen angel.”
If this wasn’t his contract year, however, I’d say getting him is a bad bad move.
The only issue is that if Simmons was given up in that trade, we are making a very weak SF position even weaker. I think it would be great landing Harrington (and maybe even getting Marcus back) but again, it’s all about what we need to give up. I feel like Golden State wouldn’t just want scrubs.

I wish we could get Bayless, he’s my other man crush, other than CDR
by jerrod on Nov 10, 2008 4:42 PM EST reply actions
too bad apparently the rookies arent producing and najera and hassel are. now im just waiting for swift to come back and take brooks spot in the rotation. ugh. how does this idiot still have a job. ryan anderson has been productive in every game, and hes benched so najera can airball 3s. great.

How can you say people who say LeBron isnt coming to the Nets are silly and no one knows what he will do, but in the next few words say he definitely wont be in detroit…I hope you were being sarcastic.
by TheMann on Nov 10, 2008 4:58 PM EST reply actions
If we traded Sean or Anderson for a Good PG and a starting SF I would be soooo happy
by jerrod on Nov 10, 2008 4:58 PM EST reply actions
If we were to bring back marbury i think he would play great. i dont know how him devin and carter wold coexist though. he def would take doolings minutes. i dont see this happening at all.
by SUPERB on Nov 10, 2008 5:40 PM EST reply actions
we beat the heat in the preseason and we were without keyon jarivs and najera. we can still beat them i think plus carter plays damn well in miami
by ben on Nov 10, 2008 5:43 PM EST reply actions
One thing we know for sure. If Yi starts off having a bad night there is no way he’ll fix it. I say start Yi, first sign he can’t produce and either Najera or Anderson goes in. If it’s Defense we need Najera is in, if it’s offense Anderson goes in. Same thing with Boone and Simmons. If it aint happening get Lopez and Hayes in.

Or how about Starbury?
Maybe Kenny Smith? He may still have some run.

“So whats this about 1 week we have so much money that we are going after Lebron, and now this week we are short on money to hire a bum off the streets to sub in for a week. I dont get that at all.”
There’s nothing to get. We have 15 players under contract and thats the max a team is allowed. We have so much money in 2010 because a lot of our players won’t have a contract that year.
Starbury didn’t listen to Isiah Thomas. What makes you guys think he’ll listen to Frank?
Harris is out for a week. I don’t think were going to make a trade just to help us out for a couple games.

Unless someone has some kind of insider info that he isn’t telling us about, all of this Lebron James to Brooklyn talk is a bunch of smoke being blown up our a**es from what i’m seeing and is nothing more than mere speculation.
by Mr Dollar Bills on Nov 10, 2008 7:59 PM EST reply actions
I think the Nets already get a crap rep and fan base as it is. I agree Marbury is talented and would help for a year, but that would just push the Nets to far off the deep end in fan base.
by Tim on Nov 10, 2008 9:05 PM EST reply actions
How about Earl Boykins! Instant offense and energy
by JustinNJ on Nov 10, 2008 9:10 PM EST reply actions
Forget Marbury! You do not win with Marbury! Still the best trade in franchise history…..Kidd for Marbury! Besides, I can’t stand the way he speaks during an interview! You can have a more intelligent conversation with a 2nd grader!
