Update and Upgrade

Twice a year, we engage in a little exercise--grading and regrading Rod Thorn's roster moves. At the trade deadline and just before opening night, we take a look at the Nets' trades, drafts, free agent signings going all the way back to 2000, and assign a grade. A lot of the time, good grades become failing grades, and vice versa. So here it is, with comments from April 2006 forward still in place.

i’d give the Najera signing more than a B-. i see what you are saying with his contract, but i think he is the perfect type of guy any franchise would want really at any point. i think with his play, knowledge and willingness to WANT to teach the young kids will benefit this team/franchise greatly. i think his play will be fine, but his work ethic and leadership is the real reward here. remember he turned down offers from top level teams to come here. would it have been nice to get him cheaper? sure. but i think najera is more B+, definitely higher than Hayes who got a B. but i can see your reasoning giving him a b-
