The Nets announced Sunday morning that they have waived Robert Hite. Hite averaged 5.3 points per game, shooting .324 from the field, during the preseason. The regular season roster is now apparently set at 15.

awh man what a mistake…i really like this guy, his shooting is incredible. I even think Hite is better than Wright.

his shooting is incredible? 32% from the field? If his game is shooting then it has to be a lot higher. Yes, Ilic is a bust, send him to d league and see if there is anything there.

Undersized 2 guard that can’t run the offense and whose defense isn’t the greatest. I like Hite and we do need another shooter off the bench, but he didn’t show enough consistency, at least in PreSeason games and probably during Training Camp, which might have led to his waiver. If he did make the team, I’d see him as a 12th, 13th man (Boki, Marcus, Magloire, Boone, Sean, Armstrong, and even Wright would get more playing time. With so many guys and a coach that uses the bench way too much or not at all, Hite doesn’t fit here.

732_Franchise, stars have praised players before (Kidd on Scalabrine for instance). It happens. It’s not the end.

Kris M, it’s better to pay for what you already have than to pay for the same guy’s buyout and another guy who probably won’t come off the bench or even put another person in the Arena. With the move to Brooklyn right on the horizon, you need to put in a little more thought into finances. For a team that hasn’t gotten to the ECF for a while now, this team doesn’t deserve to be near the luxury tax range. We spent wisely this offseason. Best thing to hope for on this team doing much better is through trade.

Andy, defensively, who would you take of the two? Do you think Hite’s shooting really blocks out Wright’s inside jumpshot/defensive abilities?

Yeah I was expecting a lot from him this preseason instead he didn’t show the thing he was brough in to do…SHOOT…I didn’t see him shoot good at all…and his stats show it…so he is def. not worth paying Ilich…

man talk about a waste of space…literally…Illic is like a boogar hanging lose just get it off already.

Actually I thought Eddie Gill played rather well.

Wright is an enigma. Sometimes he plays so well and sometimes he’s totally useless. Not as totally useless as Ilic, but still.

Hey, Collins is playing some O!!! He’s scoring some points!

Good player. Shoulda dumped Ilic. Kept him for more flexibility in case of that mid Feburary trade.

by NetRick on Oct 28, 2007 6:55 PM EDT reply actions

Damn, we could have really used this guy certainly more than we use Illic the bust.
How many years are left in the guy’s contract anyway?

I read a story off www.hoopshype.com that the T’Wolves are going to buy out forward Wayne Simien, a player whom they got in the Antoine Walker trade from the Miami Heat. He seems like an intersting player who is young and can provide some energy off the bench. Plus he’s cheap. I say Thornski waive Ilic because I think the guy is too soft and not strong inside. The last thing we need is a perimeter-oriented big. Make a run for this guy and see if he can contribute.

Simien is always hurt. Was hurt at Kansas. Was hurt with the Heat. He is now officially hurting.

by Net Income on Oct 28, 2007 11:20 PM EDT reply actions

NetRick, they’d have the same value. Ilic has 1 year at $864,000 and would probably be worth more as a filler anyway.

Miguel, Simien WOULD NEVER play one meaningful minute here (And I loved Simien at Kansas). As a team owner, team president, or general manager, why would you spend money on buying out one player to pay for someone else who won’t even play? Don’t say: “Well, it’s just pocket change”, because it’s not. The Nets lose money every day with horrible ticket sales in the least populated home city of any basketball city in the NBA. In the end, Magloire, Boone, Allen, and Sean Williams would get more time off the bench than Simien anyway.

NETS FANS…THINK TRADE! These little big men aren’t going to do the job and none of them are worth spending for. If anything, I’d rather just buyout Ilic and leave the spot open in case we were to take back more in a big trade.

What are those poor Colorado 14ers supposed to do without Ilic to lead them? Oh.., wait. Nevermind.
